CHILD SUPPORT

width=

In the State of California there are child support guidelines formulated to calculate the amount of child support that will be owed. This may seem as though it is a simple process but that is rarely the case.

At Taylor Solano & Associates., our attorneys work within the family law court system to find a child custody and child support agreement that is agreeable to both parties. Our experience tells us that the custodial parent usually feels that the amount of child support is too low. Just as often the non-custodial parent feels that the child support is too high. We work to find an agreeable middle ground so our clients can have peace of mind and look forward to the future with confidence.

The Child Support and Child Custody Relationship

There are several variables parents have control over that can affect the amount of child support owed. The single biggest variable is child custody/parenting time. Our law firm employs a child support worksheet that we use to look at all the child support factors, including:

  • Parenting time credits or the amount of parenting time spent by the non-custodial parent and the number of overnight visits to the non-custodial parent
  • How overtime pay, bonuses and retirement contributions affect the child support calculation
  • Health insurance costs and who is responsible for coverage, co-pays and medication
  • Tax credits and who can claim the child or children
  • Extracurricular activities such as soccer, dance or football and who pays the expenses
  • Transportation costs to visit a non-custodial parent who lives out of state
  • And much more
